Starting from the 8th of September, we will be returning to Basingwerk Abbey! This time, as part of a Cadw-funded project, we will be collaborating with students from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to evaluate the results of geophysical surveys conducted in the abbey grounds. Our small hand-dug trial trenches will aim to address significant questions regarding the large structural features identified through various survey methods and their possible relation to the abbey. This project will also assist geophysical specialists from LJMU in better understanding the visibility of features within the geophysical data, which will help us develop a more accurate interpretation of this site and other local survey results.
