The St Patrick’s Chapel Excavation Project – Ten Years On

A day of talks following 10 years of excavation and research into the early medieval site of St Patrick’s Chapel, Pembrokeshire.

One of the most significant archaeological sites excavated in Pembrokeshire to date is the early medieval cemetery of St Patrick’s Chapel, Whitesands Bay. Five seasons of excavation took place between 2014 and 2021 as part of a collaborative project between Dyfed Archaeological Trust (now Heneb) and Dr Katie Hemer (UCL). This work revealed a significant multifunctional site with a substantial early medieval cemetery. Since its excavation, archaeological specialists have analysed the human remains, artifacts, grave markers, and more. This event will include talks from the project’s specialists showcasing the key findings of our research. It will give us the opportunity to reflect on those discoveries and the people buried at St Patrick’s Chapel between the 8th and 11th centuries AD.
