Our past shapes our future. Heneb is proud to protect Wales’s rich archaeological heritage, making sure the stories of our ancestors continue to inspire and educate for generations to come.

One of the most powerful ways you can support this work is by leaving a gift in your will. It’s more than a donation; it’s a lasting legacy that helps safeguard the history and identity of Wales long into the future.

Why consider leaving a gift?

A legacy gift is a simple but meaningful way to make a difference. It allows you to:

  • Celebrate what matters to you – showing your commitment to Welsh heritage and culture
  • Support vital work – help fund excavations, research and education
  • Create a lasting impact – give future generations the chance to connect with archaeology

What is a legacy gift?

A legacy (or gift in your will) is a way of setting aside something, whether it’s a sum of money, a share of your estate, or an item of value to support a cause you care about – archaeology.

The former regional archaeological were occasionally beneficiaries of legacy gifts. People chose this route to support archaeology in Wales because:

  • It doesn’t affect your finances in your lifetime – you remain in full control of your assets
  • It’s flexible – you can leave a specific amount or a percentage of your estate
  • It’s tax efficient – gifts to charities like Heneb are exempt from inheritance tax and may reduce your overall liability
  • It allows you to give more than might be possible during your lifetime, while still providing for loved ones and other charitable purposes

How to include Heneb in your will

If you’re considering leaving a gift in your will to support Welsh archaeology, here are some simple steps:

1. Reflect on your legacy
Think about what heritage means to you, and the difference you’d like to make for future generations.

2. Speak to a solicitor or advisor
They can help ensure your wishes are clearly recorded and advise on the best approach for your circumstances.

3. Decide how your gift will be used
Unrestricted gifts allow us to respond where the need is greatest. If you prefer, you can support a specific area such as research, excavations or education. We are happy to help ensure your wishes are reflected.

4. Keep your will up to date
As circumstances change, it’s worth reviewing your will from time to time.

5. Let us know (if you’d like to)
You don’t have to tell us, but if you do, we’d like to thank you and keep you connected to the areas of our work which most interest you.
