This Cadw-funded survey examines prehistoric defended enclosures across Ceredigion, following earlier scoping and desk-based studies. A total of 227 sites were recorded, including hillforts, promontory forts, and defended enclosures, of which 49 are Scheduled Ancient Monuments. Field visits showed that larger earthwork sites generally survive in good condition, while some smaller earthworks have deteriorated over recent decades. Many of the smaller sites are known only as cropmarks, which are the focus of ongoing assessment. Together, the results provide an updated picture of the character and condition of Ceredigion’s defended prehistoric landscapes.
