These Cadw-funded projects form part of a programme to record traditional farmsteads across Dyfed. Beginning with a pilot study in Carmarthenshire, the work developed a rapid, desk-based methodology using historic and modern mapping alongside aerial photography. The pilot identified and characterised around 550 farmsteads, providing a framework for wider recording. Follow-up projects in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire extended this approach, documenting thousands more sites and appraising their survival and condition. By March 2021, the project aimed to record around 12,000 farmsteads across Dyfed, creating a comprehensive dataset to support planning, strategic research, and future community-based initiatives.
