Cadw funded an emergency recording of the former Merthyr Tydfil Brewery before its demolition in 2009. Reputed to be the oldest brewery in the town, with origins as early as 1830, the complex grew significantly under the Giles family and later William Hancock & Co., with new malt houses, stables, and a brewhouse complex added during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Brewing ceased in 1936 when the site became a distribution depot, and later a council yard. The survey provides a valuable record of this important part of Merthyr’s industrial heritage.
