This Cadw-funded project assessed the significance of medieval and post-medieval mills and waterpower sites across Glamorgan and Gwent. A total of 115 sites were examined, including 20 new entries for the Historic Environment Record, to evaluate their survival, condition, and heritage value. The study found that while some examples are already protected, many remain vulnerable and under-recognised, with a number identified as being of national or regional importance. The project highlights the need for further investigation, conservation, and, in some cases, statutory protection to ensure these important industrial heritage sites are preserved for the future.
