Since the 1980s, aerial photography has identified over 55 crop-marked enclosures in south Ceredigion, including a distinctive group of rectangular examples. A Cadw-funded survey in 2004 confirmed that while little surface evidence survives, geophysical work revealed significant below-ground remains such as circular gullies, hearths, post-holes and enclosure divisions. These features strongly suggest settlement activity comparable to Iron Age defended sites, demonstrating that these crop-marked enclosures preserve important archaeological evidence despite their subtle appearance in the modern landscape.
