This project, funded by Cadw, examined the historic road network of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire, focusing on turnpike and earlier pre-turnpike routes. Documentary research and mapping were used to trace the lines of these important transport corridors, with records added to the Historic Environment Record (HER). Field visits assessed surviving features such as road alignments, tollhouses, and associated structures, helping to evaluate their condition and potential for future management. By enhancing knowledge of these routes, the project highlights their importance as part of the historic landscape and identifies sections that may merit protection as Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
