Experience headlines: Inspector of Ancient Monuments, England and Cadw, Welsh Government (and predecessor bodies) 1975-2013. Retired 2013. In post, undertook regional responsibilities for South West Wales (to 1989), North East Wales and latterly all north Wales; protection of ancient monuments; monitoring of regional trust work/expenditure; conservation and excavation programmes at guardianship sites; maritime archaeology; agri-environment schemes; world heritage sites; writing and editing archaeological publications, team leadership and management of staff and Field Monument Wardens; chairing committees. 2010, awarded CBE for services to the Historic Environment in Wales
Formerly: Chair of Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust; Council member and Vice President Society of Antiquaries of London; member of Archaeological Advisory panel for National Trust; member of Council of Royal Archaeological Institute; advisor ICOMOS International on World Heritage state of conservation reports
